Class name:     Advanced Competition Agility

Target dogs and age range:     For dogs and handlers competing at the Excellent/Masters level AND permission of the instructor.

        Currently open only to GLKC members.

 

Goals:            To challenge handlers and dogs to increase agility skills

                     To acquaint handlers with course design and course building skills

                     To promote discussion/input from all participants regarding each other’s handling.

 

Prerequisites:     completion of GLKC novice and intermediate agility classes (or equivalent)

                         dog confident on all equipment and handler comfortable with various handling moves such as front cross, rear cross, blind cross, etc.

Promotion requirements:     none, currently no class to promote to

Class size, duration :     class size may vary, but propose to limit to 6 teams per 90 minute session. 8 week series.

Publications for instructor guidance:     Mah book on Course Design (published by Clean Run), Clean Run Magazine, Clean Run Book of Agility Games.

Skills covered in class:

      design of courses with dog safety, handling challenges, and constraints of building size, shape, and posts.

      familiarization with various agility flavors/games

      course building skills, both as “chief” and “crew”

      critique of agility runs, both dog and handler

Obstacles:     All AKC regulation obstacles
