Class name: Beginning Rally Target dogs and age range: Those needing beginning Rally skills, 1 year and up Goals: to prepare dogs who have some basic obedience skills for competition in Rally Obedience novice/level 1, obedience and/or agility and to practice obedience fundamentals in a fun and exciting way. Prerequisite skills: 1. Some degree of stationary attention 2. Some degree of moving attention 3. Walk at the handler's left side on a loose leash 4. Sit, Down, and Come on command It is recommended that the dog and handler complete a basic obedience class which covers the above skills using positive reinforcement methods before enrolling in this class. The GLKC Basic Obedience (Beginning Clicker) and/or Pre-Novice/Canine Good Citizen classes are recommended. Other dog/handler teams will need to be evaluated before or during the first class. Promotion requirements: passing score on complete Rally novice/level 1 course Class size, duration: Maximum 8 dog/handler teams, 8 weeks, one hour per week Publications for instructor guidance: “Rally-O: An Introduction to the Style of Rally Obedience” enlarged 2nd edition, by Charles L.(Bud) Kramer, "Click Your Way to Rally Obedience" by Pamela Dennison, "The Rally Course Book" by Janice Dearth, AKC Rally Obedience rules and regulations, APDT Rally Obedience rules and regulations Skills covered in class: AKC Rally Novice Exercises and APDT Level 1 Exercises, including on-leash heeling, several types of turns and pivots, sit, down, stay, come, finish, spiral and others. Equipment provided by the handler: Collar (buckle, quick release, or martingale) Leash (4 to 6 foot fabric or leather) Soft bite-sized treats Clicker Equipment provided by GLKC: Set of signs, numbers, and sign holders Ring gates and floor mats 4-12 cones (pylons) Set of food bowls
Class name: Continuing/Advanced Rally Target dogs and age range: Those ready for Advanced/Excellent or Level 2/3 Rally skills, 1 year and up (growth plates must have closed to perform jumps) Goals: to prepare dogs with Rally 1 experience for competition in Rally Obedience Novice/Level 1 through Excellent/Level 3 Prerequisites: completion of the Beginning Rally Class or equivalent Promotion requirements: N/A Class size, duration: Maximum 8 dog/handler teams, 8 weeks, one hour per week Publications for instructor guidance: see list above for Beginning Rally Skills covered in class: AKC Advanced and Excellent exercises, APDT Level 2 and Level 3 exercises, plus review Novice/Level 1 exercises, transition to Off-lead Heeling, advanced stationary exercises, advanced pivots, advanced fronts, offset figure 8, jumps, stand for exam Equipment provided by the handler: Collar (buckle, quick release, or martingale) Leash (4 to 6 foot fabric or leather) Soft bite-sized treats Clicker Equipment provided by GLKC: Set of signs, numbers, and sign holders Ring gates and floor mats 4-12 cones (pylons) Set of obedience jumps Set of food bowls
