“Canine Freestyle is a dog sport in which training, teamwork, music, and movement combine to create an artistic, choreographed performance highlighting the canine partner in a manner that celebrates the unique qualities of each individual dog. It is built upon the foundation of a positive working relationship between dog and handler team.” Freestyle is fun for all ages and breeds of dogs. It is a wonderful form of entertainment. The Greater Lafayette Kennel Club will welcome Carolyn Scott to Lafayette the end of April, 2006. Carolyn is one of the most renowned and popular canine freestylers in the world. It will captivate you! Carolyn Scott has enjoyed training and showing dogs for the past 26 years. In addition to her current partners, Golden Retrievers Rookie & Maverick, Carolyn has trained and shown a variety of breeds including a Chow, a Doberman and two Shepherds. Over the past 8 years, Carolyn and Rookie have continually set a standard of excellence. In addition to titles and awards earned, Carolyn and Rookie have also appeared and performed on shows such as the Howie Mandel, Regis & Kathy Lee, Animal Planet (Petsburg) (Pet Star), Good Morning America, various news media spots including CNN, ABC, NBC and several local shows. They have also been featured in Parade Magazine, Dog Training Weekly, Show Site, Living With Golden Retrievers and Working Dogs and are featured on the third training video (Getting the Applause) with Sandra Davis. Carolyn has traveled extensively presenting freestyle seminars and promoting this “fun” sport across the U.S., Canada, Japan and Australia. ABOUT THE SEMINAR: Seminar topics will include but are not limited to: GET UP & DANCE Think you have to be a dancer to do freestyle? Wrong! This workshop covers the “illusion of dance” and shows teams how to present a rhythmic performance without ever knowing a formal dance step…. Be ready to “Get Up & Dance”! PARTNERS IN RHYTHM Selecting music for a freestyle routine can be one of the most challenging and exciting elements in freestyle. Using each team’s individual personality, style, and pace – this workshop will help participants find the “magic of the match.” This is an active workshop where teams will have the opportunity to “try out” several different music types. Teams will also learn tips and techniques on how to select music that best highlights each team’s strengths and relationship. FRALLY WORKSHOP Learn how the exciting new sport of Rally Obedience can compliment your freestyle training! Teams who have already done rally will learn how easily those exercises carry over into creating a freestyle routine, and those who have done freestyle will learn how ell their freestyle moves have prepared them for rally-o. Topics include explaining and teaching the rally exercises while showing how they can also be used for freestyle. FREESTYLE VIDEO PREVIEWS With so many options available, this workshop will give participants the opportunity to preview some of the most popular freestyle training videos. Participants will have the opportunity to see selected portions of videos by Attila Szukalek, Richard Curtis, Mary Ray and others. In addition, this workshop will show some outstanding freestyle performances – both current and all-time favorites to help give freestyle teams an insight into all the possibilities of freestyle. POLISHING YOUR PERFORMANCE You have your music, you’ve trained your dog – now what? This workshop covers the other important elements that bring the freestyle performance together – including costume selection, understanding your audience, preparing for performances and more… |
